HOW TO MEDITATE
cultivating a happy and peaceful mind
20, 27 August
Happiness is a state of mind, not a job, a possession or a relationship. We all have within us our own source of deep peace, happiness and joy. Meditation is a tool for accessing our happiness. by learning to meditate we can discover that happiness and peace of mind don’t depend upon external objects or being successful, beautiful or popular. We can all learn to be happy, no matter what our circumstances. Anyone can learn to meditate, no matter how busy your life may be.
Over the next 2 weeks we will be exploring how to meditate. These classes are open to everyone, regardless of experience.
THE ART OF POSITIVE THINKING
3, 10, 17 September, 1, 8
Our ability to live a positive and enjoyable life depends 100% on how we think. Usually when we feel unhappy or irritated, we believe that it’s exclusively our situation or another person that needs to change. We are generally unaware of our thoughts and attitudes and how they are disturbing our peace of mind and preventing us from living a truly positive life. The reality is that it’s our attitude that determines the quality of our life. The actual method to increase our happiness and to solve our unhappiness problem, is to learn to change our attitude from negative to positive.
On this 5 week series of meditation classes we will explore how we can become more aware of our thoughts and grow our positive attitudes whilst recognising and letting go of our unhelpful attitudes.
The course will focus principally on attitudes we hold towards our self an others. We shall discover that by developing more realistic and balanced views of our self and others, we can really set ourselves free from painful and disturbing attitudes.
Week 1 – developing authentic self-confidence
Week 2 – developing awareness of the relationship between our thoughts and our experience
Week 3 – improving our relationships
Week 4 – forgiving ourself and others
Week 5 – developing our peaceful and caring heart
MEDITATION classes for everyone
ENJOY calming guided meditations and learn reliable methods to make your mind clear and positive and thereby transform your life.
In each class a different aspect of meditation and Buddhism is explained. The classes are self-contained so you can drop in any week. There is no need to book or bring anything. Classes begin with a simple guided breathing meditation followed by a teaching and a second guided meditation based on the topic.
The current classes are based on:
HOW TO TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE
‘Every living being has the same basic wish – to be happy and avoid suffering. Even newborn babies, animals and insects have this wish. It has been our main wish since beginningless time and it is with us all the time, even during our sleep. We spend our whole life working hard to fulfil this wish.
Since this world evolved, human beings have spent almost all their time and energy improving external conditions in their search for happiness and a solution to their problems. What has been the result? Instead of their wishes being fulfilled, human suffering and problems have continued to increase while the experience of happiness and peace is decreasing. This clearly shows that until now we have not found a correct method for reducing our problems and increasing happiness.
The actual correct method for doing this is changing our attitude from negative to positive. We must understand this through our own experience’.
