January classes

January: 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th

Do you find that your mind is often filled with worry and anxiety? It can feel as if there’s always something  to worry about. In reality, our worrying habit will always ‘find’ something to worry about so it’s this habit that is our actual problem. Worry robs us of our peace of mind and prevents us from enjoying our life. Nowadays this is a common experience but we can learn how to let go of this bad mental habit. This series of classes will explore how to take back control over our mind and our life so we can begin to enjoy the peace of mind that we all have the capacity to experience.

We will look at  precisely what the nature of our mind is and how it functions to give rise to worry and other painful states of mind. We will learn how powerful the mind is and how helpful it is to learn to harness this  power. Through understanding our mind we can really begin to change our whole experience of life.

week 1 – Stop worrying, start living

week 2 – Healing the mind

Week 3 – Stilling your busy mind

Week 4 – Dissolving pain and worry

February Classes

February: 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th

Have you noticed how we generally don’t choose our thoughts? In fact, generally our thoughts are in control of us rather than us choosing them. On any given day, we have countless thoughts and many of them are unconstructive and disturb our mind, sometimes ‘forcing’ us to engage in actions that are harmful. If we check, these thoughts prevent us from being happy and being the person we really want to be.
“Happiness and suffering are states of mind, and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we want to be truly happy and free from suffering, we must learn how to control our mind” Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.
On this series of classes we will explore how we can gradually transform our mind through meditation. Meditation is a process of learning to cultivate and become deeply familiar with helpful and constructive attitudes. By training in meditation we can cultivate inner peace and a deep sense of purpose in our lives. The more we practice this type of meditation, the more we will have the freedom to choose positive thoughts that make us happy in our daily life.  The more our mind is positive and happy, the more our life improves.
We will explore how to work with different parts of our mind such as intention, mindfulness, concentration and wisdom –  so as to enable us to cultivate and hold positive attitudes both in and out of formal meditation.
week 1 – Choose happiness
week 2 – Protecting your mind from negative thinking
week 3  – Developing a calm and focused mind
week 4  – Thoughts that harm and thoughts that heal
