Why meditate?

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful.
If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we shall experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we shall find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions.

Training in meditation helps us to develop an inner space and clarity that enables us to control our mind regardless of the external circumstances. Gradually we can learn to rely upon peace within our mind and can learn to be happy all the time.

What does each class involve ? 

Each class begins with a simple guided meditation to help relax and calm the mind. This is followed by a short talk given by a qualified teacher and then a second meditation.

Each week different advice is given explaining techniques for positive thinking and how we can use this understanding to improve our daily lives. Examples of the types of topics are – how to reduce stress, how to remain calm when things go wrong, how to improve relationships and increase confidence.

Our longer classes include an opportunity to discuss and ask questions and conclude with a second guided meditation. At most classes participants are welcome to stay afterwards for refreshments.

Do I need to book for a class or can I just turn up ?

You can attend any time. No need to book. Just aim to arrive a few minutes before the class if you can. If you’d like to book for a series in advance you can via our website and you’ll receive a discount.

Can I attend a class at any time or do I need to start at the beginning of a series ?

Each class is fairly self contained and all the meditations are guided so you can attend any class – you do not have to start from the beginning of the series.

Do I need to bring anything or wear particular clothing ?

Participants sit on chairs and no special clothing or equipment is required.

Are the classes suitable for beginners ?

These classes are suitable for beginners. Everyone can benefit from the classes regardless of experience or religious beliefs. Our classes are open to everyone and simply contain helpful advice for positive living.

Do you cover different topics in different classes ?

No two classes are ever the same and we cover different topics at each series. So over the course of the year, we will explore a broad range of topics, providing a good overview of Buddhist meditation techniques and thought.

Do you do more in depth classes ?
