Who We Are

Kadampa Meditation Centre Birmingham is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition-International Kadampa Buddhist Union, a Buddhist tradition with no political affiliations that follows the pure Mahayana Buddhist teachings of Atisha (AD 982 – 1054) and Je Tsongkhapa (AD 1357 – 1419), as presented for contemporary society by modern-day Buddhist master, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

A Kadampa Buddhist Centre was first established in Birmingham 30 years ago, initially located in Kings Heath and then moving to Erdington. In January 2016 we moved to our current location in the thriving ‘West Side’ area of the City Centre, right next door to the iconic ‘Mailbox’ and ‘The Cube’ and only 10 minutes walk from Birmingham New Street station.

The Centre offers a variety of  meditation classes and courses that suit the needs of different people. They are open to everyone, regardless of beliefs or background and introduce people to simply tried and tested methods to calm the mind and develop a more positive attitude. Whether you simply want a short 25 minute meditation session, want to learn more about methods and techniques for transforming your mind or wish to fully embrace the Buddhist path, we have something for you.

The Centre is currently closed and we are offering all our classes online but once we are open again you are welcome to drop in and take some time to relax in our comfortable sitting and reading areas, enjoy a cup of tea or browse our shop.

Feedback from a Regular Attender:

“Everyone needs a bit of calm in the busy world we live in, and this is the place you will find it. You can go to a class, course or just pop in for a cup of tea. My favourite place in the city centre ” Rachel
